This convention only happens once every 3-4 years. All YLs are welcome.
Beware of GPS hell. Several GPS and map programs will take you to a locked gate on the fairgrounds. The East side gate, Edgar St./Pershing Blvd., entrance is the only gate open at the fairgrounds. Parking is free.
First responders, amateur radio operators, Boy Scouts and anyone interested in knowing what’s going on with the weather are invited to attend this important and educational session.
The Upshur-Gregg LETARC-ARES has been authorized use of the special event call sign W5Y for the three days of the Upshur County Yamboree celebration.
A VHF and an HF station will be operated during that time. The VHF station will interact with stations using the 147.34 repeater and the HF station will interact with stations on 7290.
The planned hours of operation will be from noon to 6pm on Thursday October 18, 9am till 6pm Friday October 19 and 9am till 5pm Saturday October 20.
The Boy Scouts of America Upshur County Chapter will participate with ARES during the three day period.
Jim Liberacki N5TQI Upshur-Gregg Emergency Coordinator urges LETARC members who are able to participate as radio operators during the event. Jim says, ‘While you’re visiting at the Yamboree drop in and relieve an operator who may need a rest stop.’
The Texas Broadcast Museum is planning on having an auction to sell off lots of stuff that are duplicates, triplicates or just not of real interest to the Museum. There will be various old radios, video and audio equipment people will find interesting. Vintage Radio & Phonograph Societies from Dallas and Houston have been invited to attend. There is a $5.00 donation to tour the museum.
